    Allie – Dental Discharge

    Allie is a 6 year old female Maltese, 7 pounds.   She had her first professional dental cleaning at 3 years of age (2015) and had one tooth removed.  I notice that for Allie she has a lot of plaque build up on her teeth regardless of brushing.  I try to brush her teeth about once per week but that isn’t enough for her.  13 months later (2016) I took her in again and they had to pull one of her front teeth because it was loose from gum disease.  She went yesterday and they extracted 10 teeth.  I was devastated!     Mikasa – Dental Discharge

    This is the ideal discharge that you want to receive from you vet when you take your pet in however ideally you would prefer to not have to go to the vet if you can keep your pets teeth free of plaque and tartar. Mikasa was born in 2016 and yesterday was her very first dental cleaning (age 3). They only extracted one tooth and that is because is was a baby tooth.     Caring for Maltese teeth

    Please take the time to brush your dogs teeth a few times a week and if you can’t then make sure they get vet checked for gum disease at least once a year.  Gum disease can lead to heart conditions which as you can guess will shorten the life of your pet.  Because of how many Maltese I have I try to brush their teeth at least every couple of weeks,  which is not really enough, when I give them a bath and I use a children’s toothbrush and dog toothpaste.  It comes in chicken flavor which I don’t really like the smell of but I think my fur babies…
